The RHB Singapore Cup Draw cum Launch took place on RHB Banks very own Cecil St Branch Banking Hall on Thursday, 19 April 2007 for the first time in history.
A total of 16 teams, including four invitational teams from Brunei, Cambodia and Thailand will participate in this year’s RHB Singapore Cup tournament, kicking off on 29 April 2007.
FAS President Assoc Prof Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs and Mr Lim Hun Joo, Country Head for RHB Bank Singapore got the ball rolling by drawing the four teams – Thailand’s Bangkok University and Chonburi FC, Brunei’s DPMM FC and Cambodia‘s Phnon Penh Empire FC – First.
This is RHB Bank’s third year of the sponsorship deal with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) as the title sponsor of the Singapore Cup.
Commenting on the sponsorship, Mr Lim Hun Joo said that “The RHB Singapore Cup will help us reach out and further establish the RHB brand in the hearts of all Singaporeans. Our partnership with the S.League will enable us to solidify our presence in Singapore whilst also driving our regional ambitions by providing us with powerful brand visibility in the many markets in the region in which we operate.
Highlighting the novel idea of getting customers involved in the draw, Mr Lim said “This year’s RHB Singapore Cup is special as our customers were the ones who picked the teams to be drawn in the matches. This is in line with our strategy to make banking fun and exciting for our customers”.
Witnessing the draw, FAS president Ho Peng Kee praised the bank for its decision to get customers involve in the draw for the first time “It all adds in the excitement for the man in the street and I must commend the bank for involving fans in the process” said Assoc Prof Ho.
